To the editor: Gerken votes no on ICE pact

Thank you to Commissioner Peter Gerken for continuing to vote no to renewals of the contract with ICE to house immigrants at CCNO. It is well known that ICE often houses human beings without specific criminal charges or due process, and it appears that the CCNO Board is able to obtain little information about any charges or “crime” for prisoners that ICE sends to CCNO. Although the contract with ICE estimates the average length of stay at CCNO as being 4 months, in actuality the term of the stay currently seems to be quite variable and indefinite.
