Dorchester Town 1-1 Poole Town – Match Report
The honours were even between Dorchester Town and Poole Town on Saturday afternoon with it ending 1-1 in the Dorset derby at The Avenue.
Joe Lea and Pat Suraci made one change from the 2-1 defeat to Gloucester with Ik Hill coming in for Samuel Ayo Faniyan.
The match got underway with both sides testing the waters in the early stages.
Dorchester had the first real chance of the game as Dorchester’s Joe Parker whips a great ball across the face of goal which was headed over by Corey Jordan.
As the first half continued, Poole took control of the game and created numerous openings in the first 30 minutes but were unable to generate any clear-cut chances.
Shaquille Gwengwe had his effort well saved by the Magpies number one Monty Marriott from a tight angle.
As the half drew nearer to an end, it was Dorchester who started to put some momentum together with Marcus Daws flashing an effort past the post.
The half came to a goalless close in what was a very even first half of football.
Dorchester had the first effort on goal in the second 45 through Wayne Robinson who had looked dangerous throughout the match, his shot was smartly dealt with by Adam Parkes.
On the 53rd minute, the deadlock was finally broken with Ik Hill lifting a fantastic ball into the area and Gwengwe was there to convert and give Poole a 1-0 lead.
Dorchester responded almost immediately through ex-Dolphin Marcus Daws who fired his effort past Parkes to draw the game back to level terms.
Both sides continued to search for that second decisive goal, and it really felt that it could fall either way.
However, it was Dorchester who looked more likely to find a winner in the dying moments of the game, but heroic defending kept Poole in it.
The full-time whistle went with both sides taking a point in this one and neither side able to grab a last-grasp winner.
Next up for Poole is a return to home action as they host Taunton Town at Tatnam next Saturday.
