The 3 Best Movies to Watch on HBO Max This Weekend
HBO Max currently offers many film options, but there is a trio that stands out.
There’s a bit of a theme to this group of movies this weekend. With the Oscars coming soon, it’s a good time to catch up on the films that have been the talk of the town for the past few months. These three movies are likely to win awards on the big night, so why not go in having already seen them—or at the very least, refresh yourself with a rewatch to see why they are so good?
These are the three films to check out on HBO Max this weekend.
“One Battle After Another”
“One Battle After Another” has been an Oscar frontrunner since before it even came out. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a washed up revolutionist who gets pulled back into the fray when his daughter is kidnapped by a man with a grudge. The Paul Thomas Anderson-directed film simply needs to be seen (or seen again) before the big awards night and there is no better time than this weekend.
“Weapons”
One of the best horror movies released in the last few years, “Weapons” begins with an edge-of-your-seat mystery and develops into a truly horrific, but also quite funny, tale of missing children and a town rocked by the disappearances. Amy Madigan is earning award-season buzz for her turn as Aunt Gladys, whose performance alone makes the film worth watching.
“Sinners”
A vampire story steeped in the history of the 1920s Mississippi Delta proved to be a winning combination. Ryan Coogler’s sensation “Sinners” continues to gain momentum heading toward the Oscars, and deservedly so, as Michael B. Jordan pulls double duty playing twins returning home to open their own juke joint. He is joined by Wunmi Mosaku, Hailee Steinfeld, Delroy Lindo, Miles Caton and others, all of whom contribute to making it one of, if not the, best films of the year.
