Vice-President Ansah calls for stronger support for women
Vice-President Jane Ansah has called for stronger systems that support women and girls to enable them to take an active role in shaping their future and contributing to national development.
Ansah made the remarks in Lilongwe where she was presiding over International Women’s Day celebrations hosted by Miss Malawi Thandie Chisi and the Miss Malawi Organisation.
She said women across the country continue to demonstrate resilience and determination in different sectors despite facing social and economic barriers.
“Empowering women is not simply a matter of fairness; it is a fundamental requirement for sustainable development. When women participate fully in decision-making, nations become more resilient,” said Ansah.
She added that government remains committed to creating systems and opportunities that support women’s participation in leadership and development.
Miss Malawi organised the event to inspire young girls through interactions with leading women from key sectors including agriculture, public service and policy, media and communications, medicine, the creative industry and the NGO sector.
