Iran to halt strikes on neighbors unless attacks originate from them, president says
Masoud Pezeshkian, Iran’s president, said the country’s temporary leadership council has approved a decision to stop attacks on neighboring states unless Iran is attacked from their territory.
In a televised message released Saturday, Pezeshkian apologized to neighboring countries that were struck during Iran’s recent retaliatory military operations.
He said Iran has no intention of launching aggression against neighboring states and called on regional countries to work together to restore peace and stability.
Iran launched strikes on several countries after the outbreak of conflict with the United States and Israel, targeting locations in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain.
Iranian officials have said the strikes were aimed at U.S. military bases and facilities linked to American forces stationed in those countries.
Regional governments, however, condemned the attacks and described them as violations of their sovereignty while warning that they reserve the right to respond.
According to reports, the attacks heightened fears that the conflict could expand across the Gulf region and threaten energy infrastructure.
