Victor Lai Advances to All England Semifinals
Badminton Pan Am congratulates Victor Lai for his outstanding performance at the prestigious All England Open Badminton Championships in Birmingham, where he has secured a place in the men’s singles semifinals.
Lai began his impressive run with a thrilling victory over Alex Lanier, winning 21–12, 21–23, 23–21 in a dramatic three-game match. He then continued his strong form in the Round of 16 with a solid 21–12, 21–18 win against Lee Cheuk Yiu.
In the quarterfinals, Lai delivered another remarkable performance, defeating Japan’s Koki Watanabe 18–21, 21–17, 21–15 to advance to the semifinals of one of badminton’s most historic tournaments.
With this result, Lai joins a very select group of Canadian players to reach the final stages of the All England. One of the most notable precedents was Wendy Clarkson Carter, who reached the women’s singles semifinals in 1978, becoming one of the earliest Pan American athletes to achieve such a milestone at the tournament.
Lai will now face India’s Lakshya Sen in the semifinal, as the Canadian star continues his remarkable campaign in Birmingham and looks to keep making history for Pan American badminton.
