Fans Think These New Harry Styles Lyrics Might Be About Ex Olivia Wilde
Harry Styles’ new album “Disco All The Time. Kiss, Occasionally” is giving us a lot of throwbacks, not only in sound, but in the actual content of his lyrics. No, I’m not talking about a return to the ’70s, I’m talking about a return to 2022—specifically, to Harry’s Don’t Worry Darling days.
Back then, Styles got a lot of attention for plenty of different things (we haven’t forgotten the Chris Pine spitting allegations already), but one aspect of his personal life was under a whole lot of scrutiny: his relationship with director Olivia Wilde.
At the time, there were plenty of reasons fans felt the relationship seemed off—age gap aside, it’s believed that Wilde was still together with her husband Jason Sudeikis at the time, and there were reports that Styles and Wilde’s relationship was causing tension on set. However, their relationship ended in 2023, and since then, it’s been all but forgotten, especially now that Styles is believed to be dating Zoë Kravitz.
That is, until he dropped this new album.
One song in particular, called “Paint By Numbers,” makes fans believe he may have written about Olivia Wilde. For the lyrics, Harry wrote:
You’re the luckiest, oh, the irony
Holding the weight of the American children whose hearts you break
Was it a tragedy when you told her
“I’m not even thirty-three”?
A little self-compassion and a life within your means
Fans speculate that “the weight of American children whose hearts you break” may refer to Wilde’s two children, who she brought to Styles’ “Love On Tour” while they were dating. They also believe that the line “I’m not even thirty-three” may refer to their age gap, which may have ultimately caused problems in the relationship.
Styles has not yet confirmed what the song is about, but one thing’s probably true: No matter what he says, it’s likely people will still listen and come to their own conclusions.
