Queen’s Park v Airdrie – Match Preview

QUEEN’S PARK host Airdrie at The city Stadium in a lunchtime kick-off for this William Hill Championship fixture.

A World Cup qualifier for Scotland’s women’s national team being moved to Barclays Hampden prompted a slight re-shuffle of timings to avoid a clash with the international’s televised 5pm kick-off.

As well as the time move, reduced parking is available on this occasion.

Sean Crighton doesn’t intend on parking the bus against his old side though.

Ricki Lamie was back in training at Lochinch this week

The Spiders head coach is actively looking forward to the 1pm start and, boosted by the injury return of Ricki Lamie, has more options at his disposal.

It’s been a mixed week at Lochinch with last week’s fantastic Youth Cup semi-final win followed by two narrow defeats – a penalty denied the first-team at Dunfermline then the Spiders lost out on penalties in the Glasgow Cup at the Rangers Training Centre on Tuesday.

Looking ahead

Sean Crighton’s head coach previews are sponsored by Glasgow Clyde College.

The head coach, and assistant Jim Duffy, are sponsored by PTS Clean this season.

Callum Smith’s home kit is sponsored by Kayden Kozicki.

The Season so far...

Queen’s and the Diamonds have juked it out at the bottom end of the table throughout the season.

Only after matchday one have they both been out of the bottom three places but the Spiders could move upwards with a win – and leapfrog Raith Rovers who don’t have a fixture this weekend.

Airdrie too could be elevated above the Spiders with a win of their own.

The last encounter ended in a 3-0 away win for Sean Crighton’s side, following two draws.

Scott Martin completed his first 90 minutes in over a year against St Johnstone

Since their last visit to The city Stadium, which ended scoreless, Airdrie have replaced Danny Lennon with Aaron Taylor-Sinclair – a move made permanent in January. The Lanarkshire boss was once a team-mate of Sean Crighton as young players at Montrose.

The connections continue – former Spider Euan Henderson has been one of the Diamonds’ top performers this term, but he’s now been joined by another ex-Queen’s Park favourite in the form of Dom Thomas.
