Are Eva Mendes & Ryan Gosling Married?
Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling gave a rare insight into their relationship during a March 5 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
The couple is notoriously private about their relationship, including whether they’re married or not, but shared a sweet moment on camera in celebration of Mendes’ 52nd birthday. Gosling, 45, was on The Tonight Show to promote his film, Project Hail Mary, when he told the audience that he wanted to surprise Mendes for her birthday. “Here’s the thing, you might find me in the Hudson River tomorrow,” he said.
The Training Day actress made her way to the stage where the marching band from New Jersey’s North Bergen High School played “Happy Birthday” for her while Gosling clapped along.
The outing was Gosling and Mendes’ first official appearance together since 2015. The couple began dating in 2011, while filming The Place Beyond The Pines together. The couple welcomed their first daughter, Esmeralda, in 2014, and their second daughter, Amada, in 2016.

Mendes has repeatedly hinted that she and Gosling are married, seemingly confirming they had wed in private at an unknown time. In November 2022, she referred to Gosling as her “husband” during an appearance on Australia’s Today show, per Elle. “Everyone is so welcoming here and my husband Ryan is here, and we are having the best time,” she told hosts Karl Stefanovic and Allison Langdon.
During another Australian appearance that same year on the Kyle and Jackie O Show, Mendes was asked directly whether they were officially husband and wife. “Who says we weren’t already?” Mendes responded. “I like to keep it all mysterious. I’m a very mysterious woman.”
Rumors of their marriage started swirling when Mendes posted a picture on Instagram earlier that month in which she showed off a tattoo that read “de Gosling.” In many Hispanic cultures, including her own Cuban culture, women often add their husband’s last name to their own using “de” (“of” in English).
During the Kyle and Jackie O Show, she also addressed the tattoo. “I do have a tattoo, but I got it years ago,” she shared. “I posted a picture, and I’ve gotten a lot of funny questions.”
Though Mendes likes to keep us guessing, it’s safe to say the couple is at least comfortable with the husband and wife titles. We hope the best for them, be it official or not!
