Nancy Guthrie Update: Expert Says Suspect May Be Found
The search for Nancy Guthrie, the mother of NBC "Today" show host Savannah Guthrie, continued on Friday, March 6, and it reached the 34 day mark.
Now, one expert believes it's possible that police actually have a suspect in mind.
On Feb. 1, Nancy Guthrie went missing from her Tucson, Arizona, home. Officials believe she was taken against her will, and the investigation into finding her continues.
Nancy Guthrie Update Today: Expert Says Police May Be Keeping Information on the Suspect Private
In a feature for Fox News Phoenix out on Thursday, March 5, Christina Dugan Ramirez and Michael Ruiz discuss the status of the investigation on day 33.
In the piece, they interview Betsy Brantner Smith, spokesperson for the National Police Association and a retired police sergeant.
Brantner Smith drops a bombshell in the interview with Fox News Digital and says that it's possible the police already have a suspect, or multiple suspects, in mind but are keeping that information private.
"It may be because they have solid suspects, and they just haven't released that information to the public," she said in the interview.
She added that the suspect, or suspects, could also have been back at the Nancy Guthrie residence. She even says that the suspect or suspects might be quite proud of themselves for getting away with the abduction so far.
"I am guessing that the suspect or suspects who did this are frankly taking great pride in the fact that so far they've got away with it," she said. "Coming back can also be a way to bring back that rush that they had when they originally committed the crime."
Expert Discusses How Digital Forensics May Help in the Nancy Guthrie Investigation
As for the psychology of the suspect or suspects, Brantner Smith explains that they're likely getting satisfaction out of seeing the world watch and wait for answers.
"They're coming back to see the impact that they had on this neighborhood and on this family," she said. "And the rest of us would view that as very sick, but law enforcement has to view that as a way to collect clues."
Nancy Guthrie's family, the FBI and local officials are offering up a combined reward of more than $1 million for information that leads to Nancy's recovery.
"Detectives are reviewing all viable leads in this case," a spokesperson for the Pima County Sheriff's Department told Fox News Digital. They added that they don't "speak to specifics" but that the investigation is still ongoing and they're still looking for Nancy.
