Britney Spears Arrested: Details and Timeline
Britney Spears was arrested on a DUI charge on Wednesday, March 4, and released early Thursday, March 5, according to multiple reports.
According to inmate records reported on by Extra, Spears was handcuffed at 9:28 p.m. in Ventura County, California. The singer was booked at 3:02 a.m. and ultimately released at 6:07 a.m.
Earlier on Wednesday, Spears shared a video on Instagram about a "song representing fragility," but she deactivated her account after the arrest. Spears has also not said anything publicly about her arrest.

While Extra shared the report of Spears' inmate records, Variety also released a report stating that they confirmed the details of the arrest.
"The singer was handcuffed by the California Highway Patrol around 9:30 p.m. and booked early Thursday morning around 3 a.m." Variety stated in a Thursday, March 5, report. "According to an arrest record, she has since been released and is scheduled to appear in court on May 4."
Spears has been making waves in 2026. She recently sold her song catalog and other rights to Primary Wave. Also, in January, she wrote in an Instagram post, which has since been deleted, that she'll "will never perform in the U.S. again because of extremely sensitive reasons."
She added, "But I hope to be sitting on a stool with a red rose in my hair, in a bun, performing with my son... in the UK and Australia very soon."
Britney Spears Was Released From Her 13-Year Conservatorship in 2021
Spears was released from her 13-year conservatorship in 2021. She released her memoir, titled The Woman in Me, on October 24, 2023. The book, published by Gallery Books, a division of Simon & Schuster, detailed her professional life, being a mom and what it was like during her 13-year conservatorship, according to Audio Ink Radio.
Spears' last new album, Glory, was released back in 2016. Her last performance in the U.S. was in 2018, when she wrapped up her Piece of Me tour with a gig at the Formula One Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. The singer was set to be back in Las Vegas in 2019 for a second residency but postponed the show and hasn't performed in the U.S. since.
