10 Liverpool players out of contract in 2027 – who could they keep?

The Trent Alexander-Arnold saga took its toll on Liverpool, and they now face the same situation with Ibrahima Konate, who is out of contract this summer.

Andrew Robertson is also expected to leave the club when his contract runs out this summer, but Liverpool are nowhere close to being offered a reprieve.

At least 10 players are out of contract in 2027, so Liverpool must decide whether to extend their stay or cash in this summer.

Read on as we explore which players could stay and who could leave this summer.

Virgil van Dijk

Virgil van Dijk came close to leaving Liverpool last season but ultimately penned a new two-year deal to remain the club captain until 2027.

The 34-year-old has already established himself as a club legend, but it may be time for Liverpool to cut him loose as he has started showing signs of slowing down.

However, the club would be better off letting him run out the clock as he remains the most reliable centre-back in the dressing room and the heart of the Liverpool backline.

The club has been planning ahead, bringing in young talent such as Giovanni Leoni and agreeing a future deal for Jeremy Jacquet.

Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah also penned a new two-year deal last season to end months of transfer speculation.

But rumours linking him with a move away from Liverpool this summer have refused to go away, particularly with clubs in Saudi Arabia renewing their interest.

In fairness, it may be time for Liverpool to cash in on their long-serving talisman. Salah is going through his worst goalscoring spell since his debut campaign at Liverpool.

The 33-year-old has scored just eight goals and eight assists in 30 games across all competitions.

Liverpool once turned down an earth-shattering bid for the Egyptian. If interested suitors return with such a proposal this summer, the Reds would be silly to turn it down again.

Joe Gomez

Joe Gomez is another long-serving Liverpool star whose contract runs out in 2027.

He has been a useful squad player, but his woeful injury record could be the only reason Liverpool doesn’t extend his stay at Anfield beyond the end of next season.

Since returning from a lengthy lay-off, he has significantly bolstered Arne Slot’s options in defence, and his versatility is another ace up the manager’s sleeve.

Despite his injury problems, Gomez has featured 22 times in all competitions this season. Fifteen of those games have come in the Premier League, although he only started five.

Nevertheless, Liverpool may be better off extending his contract for another year or two, if only to give him more time to finally score his first goal for the club.

Alisson

It would be interesting to see how Liverpool handles Alisson’s contract situation next season.

When the club secured Giorgi Mamardashvili last year, many saw it as planning for life after their long-time number one.

However, Alisson has shown no signs of slowing down and continues to perform at the highest level.

Unless there’s an obvious decline in his performances next season, Liverpool may not see a reason to cash in on their 33-year-old shot-stopper.

The Brazilian international is another Liverpool player who has caught the eye of clubs in Saudi Arabia.

But if he keeps performing at his usual level, Mamardashvili may have to wait much longer to collect the baton from his South American counterpart.

Harvey Elliott

Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott has been trapped in a nightmare loan spell at Aston Villa and may be desperate to move on from both clubs in the summer.

As a lifelong Liverpool supporter, Elliott likely hoped for a fresh start where he could play regularly and prove his worth after falling down the pecking order at Anfield.

The 22-year-old joined the top four contenders, hoping to turn a new leaf in his career, but Villa’s reluctance to pay the agreed appearance-related fee has left Elliott frozen out of Unai Emery’s squad.

Liverpool negotiated a clause in his loan deal that mandates Villa to pay £35 million to make his move permanent if he makes 10 appearances.

But Emery is unsure if the midfielder fits into his long-term plans, and the situation will likely force Liverpool to cash in on the Englishman this summer.

Wataru Endo

Liverpool signed Wataru Endo from VfB Stuttgart in 2023 and was immediately considered a panic buy.

A few years down the line, that stance has been validated. Liverpool only brought him in after missing out on their top two targets, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, who went to Chelsea.

After joining Liverpool, Endo earned the trust of ex-Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and got ample minutes to prove his worth to the Kop.

However, his situation has become worse since Slot’s arrival. Endo has barely featured in the Premier League under Slot’s leadership.

He has made just eight Premier League appearances, starting once. Liverpool may look to cash in on the Japanese midfielder before he enters the final year of his contract.

Kostantinos Tsimikas

Konstantinos Tsimikas was shipped off to AS Roma on loan after failing further down the pecking order following the arrival of Milos Kerkez.

However, he has also struggled to assert himself in Serie A, and Roma reportedly can’t wait to send him back to Liverpool.

Even with Robertson expected to leave Liverpool when his contract runs out this summer, Tsimikas may still be considered surplus to requirements.

Tsimikas hasn’t done enough to earn a new contract, but it remains to be seen if Liverpool will keep him long enough to find a replacement.

Stefan Bajcetic

Stefan Bajcetic returned to Liverpool last summer, although the midfielder has been sidelined with injury for the majority of the season.

The Spanish midfielder was once considered one of Liverpool’s brightest young talents. He made 22 appearances under Klopp and showed maturity beyond his years.

However, he has struggled to build on that breakthrough since. At 21, he still has time to turn his career around. But he may have to do that away from Anfield.

Curtis Jones

Academy graduate Curtis Jones is another Liverpool star who could be headed for the exit this summer.

He was courted by Inter Milan in January, but Liverpool were unwilling to let him explore a loan move without first committing to a new contract.

That suggests the club still want to retain the services of their academy star, so it remains to be seen if they reopen contract talks.

However, there have been reports of the midfielder potentially falling out with Slot, so there’s a decent chance the club could cash in on him this summer.

Calvin Ramsay

Calvin Ramsay joined Liverpool three and a half years ago but is yet to make his Premier League debut.

The fact that Slot prefers to field Dominik Szoboszlai and Jones at right back rather than turning to the Scottish defender speaks volumes about his place in the squad.

The 22-year-old has hardly had a chance to prove his worth. Unfortunately, he may be one of several names headed for the Anfield exit this summer.
