Grey, glassy, lumpy, bumpy start to Thursday
Hello Friends,
No one in the water at Dee Why when I took the snaps from RealSurf HQ’s crows nest this morning. The weather call for today is partly cloudy and 27 °C along the coast. It was quite hazy, almost foggy before 0900. The wind was out of the SW at 3-5 kts (but it’ll go around to the NE by this afternoon) and the MHL buoy’s 0600 data showed 1.5 metres of 9-sec wind swell from the east. That should, in theory, mean waves into the waist plus range at the best exposures. At report time, the tide was coming into a fairly deep 1.73 metre high at 1030 – which will not help most places. Beachwatch reports Pollution Unlikely for Dee Why and a tropical water temp of 24 °C.
We’ll see what the Goat thinks later today, but my quick take is that models are pointing to a slight improvement as we head into the weekend and possibilities of more interesting options mid next week.
Have a great Thursday everyone!
Weather Situation
A slow-moving high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge to the state’s east, maintaining fresh northeasterly airstream over coastal waters. The ridge is forecast to persist over the north coast through the week while a trough brushes the south coast early today then weakens. Then, another trough is expected to cross the southern half of the coast on Friday, stalling about the central part of the coast. This will be followed by the second high pressure system passing to the south, maintaining onshore easterly airstream later in the week.
