Girl, 11, allegedly assaulted outside Near South Side elementary school
An 11-year-old girl was taken to a hospital Monday after three boys who are students at her Near South Side school allegedly sexually assaulted her, Chicago police said.
Chicago police said the girl was outside between 3:30 p.m. and 3:50 p.m. in the 2200 block of South Federal Street when three boys she knows approached and sexually assaulted her before fleeing.
Paramedics were called to 55 W. Cermak Road, the National Teachers Academy elementary school, and the girl was taken to Lurie Children's Hospital, officials confirmed, but no further details were shared.
A representative for the Chicago Public Schools released a statement from the school's principal, Teneka Brooks, which said it "received a report that members of our school community engaged improperly with another school community member outside of our school building shortly after dismissal today."
"This reported improper engagement did not involve any adults," according to the statement, sent to parents Monday. "Safety continues to be my top priority," the principal said in the statement.
"If your child is aware of this matter and has voiced any concerns to you, please let us know so we can ensure their social-emotional needs are met," the statement said.
The school notified police, the CPS Office of Safety and Security, and the CPS Office of Student Protections and Title IX, according to the statement.
Detectives are investigating.
