This Popular Horror Franchise Will Hit Netflix in March
One of horror's most influential and popular series is heading to Netflix this month, and the films are sure to scare an entirely new generation of viewers.
Netflix has continued to update its shows and films over the years, and March of 2026 is shaping up to be a big month for fans of this wide-spanning series.
The first six films in the "Saw" franchise, as well as the films "Saw: The Final Chapter," "Jigsaw" and "Saw X" will be available to stream on Netflix starting March 19.
The series focuses on a serial killer who places victims in elaborate and gruesome traps, forcing them to find a way out in order to survive.
Top Horror Franchise Heads to Netflix in March
The first film in the series released in 2004, and became one of the most influential and successful horror movies of all time. The original "Saw" grossed over $100 million at the worldwide box office, and the film was made on a budget of just over $1 million.
For the next six years, a new installment in the series would be released around Halloween, making it a tradition for horror fans in the mid-to-late 2000s. Tobin Bell features in several of the films as the serial killer "Jigsaw," and has earned acclaim and praise from fans and critics alike for his multifaceted portrayal.
The new additions to the Netflix catalog will also include "Saw X," the most recent film in the franchise. "Saw X" was released in September of 2023, nearly twenty years after the original film. To date, it is the best reviewed film in the franchise with critics praising Bell's performance as "reinvigorating" the series.
Immediate plans for an eleventh film in the franchise fell through after the success of "Saw X," but the future of the series seems bright. Producer Jason Blum announced last year that director James Wan would be returning to the series and that he would have creative influence over the next installment.
Blumhouse Says 'Saw' Will Return to Its Roots
“The 'Saw' franchise has defined a generation of horror, and its cultural impact continues to grow, making this a strategic investment in one of the most recognizable and successful genre properties of the last two decades," Blum said after acquiring the rights from Twisted Pictures.
"But what really excites me about bringing 'Saw' to Blumhouse is having James and Leigh [Whannell] back in the fold and to see the future of the franchise come to life with their guidance."
Wan and Whannell developed the story for the first "Saw" film. Wan directed the feature - his first - while Whannell is credited as the writer and star of the film. Whannell would work on the next two installments of the series, while Wan would find more success in the horror genre with films like "The Conjuring" and "Insidious."
Wan also directed "Furious 7" and both of the Jason Momoa-led "Aquaman" films, while Whannell would work on films of his own like "Upgrade," "Wolf Man" and the highly successful and critically acclaimed "The Invisible Man."
As fans wait for the next installment in the series - and for what's next from its creators - they can watch the first several films of one of horror's most iconic franchises.
