Green Steps: a dance and ecological empathy programme
A new programme taking place this spring and summer invites children and their families to join a series of dance and ecological empathy activities to nurture their relationship with the environment through dance.
Green Steps begins this March and is open for children aged 5 to 11, families, educators and environmentalists, encouraging them to discover the connection between dance and nature. In addition, the programme aims to raise children’s awareness about environmental issues through this artistic format.
The first activity is a performative roundtable on March 14 at 10am at the Nicosia Dance House. Through a non-hierarchical format of discussion, participants will engage in a structured conversation around needs, concerns, creative educational methods and open proposals related to ecology and dance.
Facilitated by Petros Konnaris, the session is open to all individuals interested in environmental issues, culture and education (artists, choreographers, educators, environmentalists, children, teenagers and parents).
On the following day, a workshop will take place at Athalassa Park, focusing on cleanliness and environmental care, where children and their families will learn about the (inter)connection of the ecosystem. The workshop includes a guided educational walk, a treasure hunt and a creative movement game.
The third activity, taking place on April 18 at the Nicosia Dance House, again is a seminar for educators, students and dance teachers. It will be led by Elena Panayiotou and Zoe Georgalli, starting at 9am. Georgalli will also present the Green Steps Performance on April 26 at Athalassa Park, while a webinar on June 15 will present the full programme’s results.
Implemented within the framework of the project Towards an Open, Just and Sustainable Europe in the World – EU Presidency Programme 2024–2026, co-funded by the European Union and carried out by Global Focus, Grupa Zagranica, CARDET and CONCORD, the events are free to attend and require registration.
