Man Utd rejected January bid for £4.3m ace, poised to leave this summer
Manchester United made a big transfer decision in the winter transfer window.
According to the Daily Mail, Man United turned down an offer for goalkeeper Altay Bayindir from Besiktas in January as they were keen to keep him as back-up for the season.
Bayindir had initially been promoted to first-choice status, with former manager Ruben Amorim favouring him over Andre Onana at the start of the 2025-26 season.
The Turkish international showed improvement in ball distribution but costly errors between the sticks continued to haunt him.
Amorim finally gave a debut to summer signing Senne Lammens against Sunderland, and the young goalkeeper seized his opportunity with an assured clean-sheet display.
Lammens has lost just twice since then, injecting calmness and composure at the back.
He looks well-suited to be United’s long-term first-choice goalkeeper.
It is understandable why the Red Devils declined an offer for Bayindir in January. The club simply could not afford to be left short-handed in the event of an untimely injury to Lammens.
Tom Heaton remains the third-choice goalkeeper at Old Trafford, but he has not made a single appearance in over three years. His most recent Premier League outing came for Aston Villa back in 2020.
Bayindir is likely to be offloaded this summer, with United expected to sign another top-quality goalkeeper who could compete with Lammens for the starting spot.
Another intriguing option would be promoting Radek Vitek to the senior squad, with the towering youngster impressing during his loan spell at Bristol City.
Besiktas are reportedly determined to recruit Bayindir in the upcoming transfer window.
United signed him from Fenerbahce in 2023 for just £4.3 million and could be open to sanctioning his departure for a relatively modest fee.
