Man dies after
shore incident
An East Bay resident died in a water emergency at the Point Reyes National Seashore, authorities said.
The incident happened Sunday afternoon at North Beach, when the man was seen 100 feet off shore, said Brianna Rowland, spokesperson for the Marin County Fire Department. A friend attempted to rescue the man. When first responders arrived, the man was on the beach.
A California Highway Patrol helicopter crew transported the man to a hospital in Sonoma County, where he was pronounced dead. The man was Adi Handach, 30, of Oakland, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.
The cause of death is under investigation, said Emily Fuller, a spokesperson for the agency.
SAN RAFAEL
Fire breaks out
at care center
A fire at an assisted living complex in San Rafael injured no residents, a fire official said.
The incident happened at about 10:45 a.m. Monday at 1 Las Gallinas Ave., where linens caught fire in a large dryer, said Deputy Chief Robert Sinnott of the San Rafael Fire Department.
An employee used a fire extinguisher to stop the flames from spreading, and the damage was limited to the dryer. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
“It remains unclear whether the incident was the result of a mechanical malfunction or combustible materials inadvertently mixed with the linens,” Sinnott said.
SAUSALITO
Ideas sought for
dock enterprise
Sausalito has issued a request for proposals for prospective business concepts at the Turney Street boat launch.
The move is part of an effort to attract private investment for upgrades at the dock area. The city says proposals could involve businesses such as water taxis, boat valet services or charters.
“The selected Proposer will be responsible for all costs associated with design, construction, repair, and operation of the proposed business concept,” the city said in an announcement Tuesday. “The City will not provide funding for these activities but will carry the burden of regulatory approvals.”
The proposal deadline is 2 p.m. March 26. Application details are online at shorturl.at/eeXvk.
