Missouri Needs to Vote for Amendment 3 to Protect Babies From Abortion
Missouri voters face a critical opportunity in 2026 to reverse course on abortion policy and safeguard unborn children by approving Amendment 3.
That is a legislatively referred constitutional amendment that would repeal the 2024 abortion amendment and impose significant protections for unborn babies. The proposed amendment, set for the 2026 ballot, would prohibit abortions except in limited cases: medical emergencies, fetal anomalies, and rape or incest (with the latter restricted to the first 12 weeks of gestation).
It would also empower the legislature to pass pro-life laws protecting babies and to ensure the health and safety of pregnant women and restore parental consent requirements.
Pro-life advocates argue that the 2024 amendment transformed Missouri “from one of the safest states in America for the unborn to one of the most dangerous,” placing more than 170 laws protecting unborn children and pregnant women at risk of being invalidated.

Voting yes on Amendment 3 would prevent “abortion on demand.”
“We ‘cannot stand by and watch innocent babies lose their lives to the horrendous act of abortion; rather, we must take action to save those we can now and fight to save all babies.’ Amendment 3 represents such action, allowing us to save ‘every life providentially possible,’” Missouri Baptists stated in support of the measure.
So how should Christians in Missouri vote? Should they vote no or sit out the election because the law does not go far enough to protect the God-given rights of the unborn? Or should they vote yes to prevent abortion on demand and save as many lives as possible? I want to humbly plead with my fellow Christians and Missourians to take the latter approach, and to vote yes on Amendment 3 when the time comes.
We should make our decision with a clear understanding of the reality on the ground. The current constitution considers abortion a “fundamental right,” with protections that will make it nearly impossible for legislators to regulate. This scenario will ultimately lead to widespread, easy access to abortion with little to no safety standards for mothers. In other words, voting no will lead to more children being murdered in environments that do not meet basic health and safety regulations.
Voting yes, on the other hand, will drastically reduce the number of abortions legally possible and allow the legislature to regulate abortion to ensure the health and safety of mothers—which will further limit abortion access. It will also protect pregnant minors by requiring their consent as well as the consent of her parent or legal guardian.
Missourians, therefore, have a choice of unfettered abortion or strong (though not complete) restrictions that will minimize legal opportunities to obtain one. While Amendment 3 does not itself meet the biblical ideal, it does bring Missouri into much stronger conformity to God’s law and sets the stage for full abolition. And in so doing, its codification will save the lives of countless children.
Thus, I concur with my fellow Missouri Baptists who believe we “cannot stand by and watch innocent babies lose their lives to the horrendous act of abortion; rather, we must take action to save those we can now and fight to save all babies.” Amendment 3 represents such action, allowing us to save “every life providentially possible.” I pray that we will.
Susan Klein, executive director of Missouri Right to Life, praised efforts to ensure clear ballot language, saying: “Missouri Right to Life praises Secretary of State Denny Hoskins in his bold work to get truthful ballot language on the ballot for the 2026 Amendment 3. Secretary Hoskins took the court head on, stood strong and won the ballot language debate with the court. We thank Judge Daniel Green for looking at the language and his ruling on the language as well. Missourians have the right to know the truth about what they will be voting on when they go to the polls. The 2026 Amendment 3 will restore protection for women, children and babies in regards to abortion. Parental rights will be restored. Health and Safety for women will be restored.”
Supporters contend that failing to pass Amendment 3 would leave Missouri with abortion on demand statewide.
