British House of Lords Will Debate Measure for Abortions Up to Birth
We expect the abortion amendments to the Crime and Policing Bill to be debated and voted on by the House of Lords at Report Stage on Wednesday 18 March. This is the last chance for the Lords to amend the Bill before it is sent back to the Commons.
We have seen considerable opposition to the proposal to decriminalise abortion in the previous debates in the Lords. We need to turn that opposition into a concrete vote to remove this clause – which, lest we forget, will legalise self-induced abortions up to birth.
We are now in the last stretch to lobby peers to do something about this horrific proposal. Here are three actions you can take:
- Write to members of the House of Lords. You can use our online webtool, which helps you generate a letter either to print on send in the post, or to send by email.
- Get people in your church writing. We have leaflets with a QR code pointing to the webtool. You can order free copies here to distribute in your church. We have also prepared an insert that can go in a church newsletter, and a short talk. If you can, please ask your priest/pastor if you can give this talk at the end of the service, and if the insert can go into the newsletter. You can download both here. You could also organise a letter writing event – get in touch if you would like guidance on doing this.
- Distribute leaflets. Our leaflets can also be delivered door to door. Order as many as you need here. Our guide to safe and respectful leafleting can be found here.
Please do all you can to lobby peers on this issue.
