60 Greatest Modified Drivers of All-Time: Doug Coby
Prior to becoming named as one of the Whelen Modified Tour’s 40 Greatest Drivers, Coby began his career at Stafford Speedway as a full fender driver. Coby won track titles in the Late Model division in 1998 and then the ProStock division in 2000 before moving into the SK Modified® ranks. Coby won 5 SK Modified® races in total at Stafford, but it was the Whelen Modified Tour where he made his name.
Coby notched his first career WMT victory in the 2006 NAPA Spring Sizzler® at Stafford, a race that he has won a total of 4 times and counting. Coby is a 6-time Whelen Modified Tour champion, second to only Mike Stefanik who has 7 titles. Coby is currently tied with Tony Hirschman for 5th place on the all-time WMT win list with 35 wins and of his 35 wins, 12 have come racing at Stafford. In addition to his modified exploits, Coby was the winner of the Inaugural SRX race at Stafford back in 2021 and he now joins the list of 60 Greatest Modified Drivers as voted on by the fans.
