How To Get Priority Access for Gorillaz ‘The Mountain’ U.S. Tour
Gorillaz have just announced the North American leg of their The Mountain world tour, to celebrate their critically acclaimed new album of the same name, released on February 27. Little Simz and Deltron 3030 will serve as supporting acts for the tour, which lasts from September 17 to October 31.
The virtual band, created by musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett in 1998, recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of the group's eponymous debut album, released in 2001.
The new album, inspired by Indian classical music and the nation's cultural beliefs surrounding death and the afterlife, utilises collaborations with friends, old and new, both living and dead. Previous Gorillaz album features, such as actor Dennis Hopper, rapper Proof, and singer Bobby Womack, make posthumous appearances on The Mountain. New collaborators, such as Anoushka Shankar (daughter of Indian music legend Ravi Shankar), rapper Trueno, iconic American band Sparks, and The Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, also feature.
The group also just dropped an accompanying short film as an animated accompaniment to the album. The film, titled The Mountain, the Moon Cave, and the Sad God, is available to watch for free, and uses traditional cel-style animation as an anti-AI message by the band.
If you're interested in checking out the immersive, genre-bending visual and musical experiences of the band live in concert, here's how to get your best chance of grabbing tickets.
