Ministry says 19 Cyprus-flagged ships in Persian Gulf remain safe
Cyprus’ Deputy Ministry of Shipping on Tuesday said that there are currently 19 ships under the Cypriot flag operating in the Persian Gulf, adding that both the vessels and their crews remain safe.
In a statement, the ministry said it has been closely monitoring developments in the region “from the very beginning” and remains in contact with the management companies of Cyprus-flagged ships operating in the area.
“There are currently nineteen ships under the Cypriot flag in the Persian Gulf,” the ministry said.
“Both the ships and the sailors working on them are safe,” it added.
Moreover, the ministry stated that “most of the vessels are permanently deployed in the region, primarily providing specialised maritime support services”.
At the same time, the ministry noted that it had already issued a relevant circular on February 28, setting out specific recommendations aimed at safeguarding ships and their crews.
“The safety of ships and human life at sea is a top priority of the Deputy Ministry of Shipping, which monitors developments on a twenty-four-hour basis,” the announcement concluded.
