Spruce Kings Extend GM Mike Hawes
The Prince George Spruce Kings are pleased to announce that they have signed General Manager Mike Hawes to a 4-year contract extension. Hawes’ current contract is set to expire on May 31, 2026. The new contract will keep Hawes with the Spruce Kings until May 31, 2030.
Mike has been with the Spruce Kings since the 2005/2006 season and has been the General Manager since 2010/2011. Hawes was named the BCHL Executive of the Year in 2019 when the Spruce Kings won the Fred Page Cup (now Rogers BCHL Cup), and Doyle Cup before finishing second at the National Championship.
Spruce Kings President David Keough: “I’m happy to sign Mike to a new contract. We are very lucky to have him as he strives to improve our players and staff. He has a great reputation within the league, and that has helped our organization develop into a premier program in BCHL. I look forward to the future successes that are ahead of us.”
Spruce Kings General Manager Mike Hawes: “ I’m very appreciative of the confidence the organization has shown in me with this contract extension. Our focus is and always will be on building a team that competes every single night and represents the Prince George community the right way.
We are committed to recruiting and developing players who want to get better every day, who understand what it means to be a Spruce King and who are prepared to put in the work required to compete for championships. Player development, accountability, and a strong culture in every aspect of the organization will continue to drive everything we do.
I’m proud of the past and what we have built. I’m also excited about the direction we’re heading and the foundation we continue to put in place to ensure sustained success for years to come.”
