Sports briefs: Novato rallies to tie with three-run seventh
Estrella Benitez hit a two-run double and Georgiana Castro reached on an error as the Novato High softball team scored three times in the seventh for an 8-8 tie against Petaluma on Monday. The game was called after seven innings.
Castro, Seanna Madsen, and Jocelyn Conrado had two hits apiece batting 1-2-3, respectively, for the Hornets (1-0-1). Castro tied for team-high honors with two RBIs while Madsen and Conrado drove in one run each.
Isabelle Rykov pitched a complete game, allowing 11 hits but only four earned runs against the Trojans (1-0-1).
- Gabby Rodriguez and Kennedy Parker combined for a five-inning no-hitter in a 24-0 win against Richmond on Monday. Rodriguez struck out five batters in three innings and Parker struck out four in two innings of relief. San Rafael (2-0) scored four runs in the first inning then broke the game open with an 11-run second. Parker had three hits and drove in five runs while hitting cleanup. Guiliana Hoover (three hits, three walks, three RBIs, five runs) and Ila Disbrow (four hits, four RBIs, four runs) both had huge games for the Bulldogs.
Boys golf
Finn Henne shot a two-under-par 34 to lead Marin Catholic to a 188-226 victory against Redwood at Meadow Club on Monday. Lincoln Sylvester carded a 37 for the Wildcats and Jasper Smith came in with a 38. Jack Caldwell shot an even-par 36 for the Giants.
- Terra Linda and Novato both picked up wins against San Rafael at StoneTree on Monday. TL was led by Matty Nelson and Tanner Kosiak with 43s in a 228-242 win. Johnny Malone was the low score for Novato with a 41 in a 224-242 win against the Bulldogs. San Rafael’s Logan Dean was the medalist with a 38.
- Drew Kalafatas, Barry Liu, and Jack Hilleboe all shared medalist honors with 35s for Branson during a 183-198 win against Archie Williams at Meadow Club on Monday. Yousef Abueida paced Archie Williams with a 38.
College athletics
College of Marin, celebrating its centennial year, is relaunching the school’s Athletics Hall of Fame this year.
“As we mark 100 years of College of Marin, relaunching our Athletics Hall of Fame is a meaningful way to honor the people who built our athletic legacy,” COM’s Ryan Byrne said in a press release. “We invite alumni, former coaches, staff, and community members to submit nominations and help us recognize those who deserve to be celebrated during this historic milestone.”
Nominees may include former student-athletes, coaches, teams, administrators, and contributors who have demonstrated outstanding athletic achievement, leadership, sportsmanship, and service to College of Marin. A special category is also available to honor impactful faculty and staff members whose work significantly advanced the Athletics Department.
COM is now accepting nominations for future Hall of Fame classes. Nomination forms can be found on the online at https://athletics.marin.edu/. The deadline for nominations is March 27.
