ePropulsion Spirit 2 Recognized for Innovation
The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) honored ePropulsion Americas with the Innovation Award in the Alternative Propulsion category at the 2026 Discover Boating Miami International Boat Show. The award recognizes the company’s latest electric outboard, the Spirit 2, for its advancements in sustainable marine technology.
The judges selected the Spirit 2 for its practical engineering and its ability to provide a viable alternative to traditional combustion engines for small boat owners.
“ePropulsion’s Spirit 2 is a significant improvement from earlier iterations of small electric outboards, with enough power and battery capacity to feasibly propel a small sailboat or large dinghy without range paranoia,” said judge Kelsey Bailey. “The robust, field-serviceable connection between battery and unit is a highlight for off-grid adventurers.”
The Spirit 2 is powered by a 2kW motor and features a new 3kW “Boost Mode” for increased thrust when needed. It is equipped with a 1539Wh quick-connect battery, which the company describes as the largest in its class. For sailing enthusiasts, a key feature is the hydrogeneration capability. When the vessel is under sail at speeds between 3 and 16 knots, the motor can generate electricity to recharge the battery, producing up to 380W at 10 knots.

Designed for portability, the motor weighs 23.5 pounds and the battery weighs 23 pounds. Practical features for cruisers include a foldable tiller, a detachable clamp, and an integrated steering lock. The system is also compatible with 48V platforms and third-party energy systems such as Victron Energy.
Additionally, the battery includes a 45W USB-C output for charging personal electronics and an optional inverter that allows the unit to function as a portable power station when away from the boat.
The Spirit 2 and other ePropulsion products are distributed in North America by Mack Boring & Parts Co.
