Dove Cameron Finally Shuts Down a 'Liv & Maddie' Theory That She's Never Responded to Before!
Dove Cameron is shutting down a theory about her Disney Channel show Liv & Maddie that she says she has never actually addressed publicly before.
The 30-year-old actress and singer had her big break while playing the dual role of twins Liv and Maddie on the Disney show from 2013 to 2017, for which she won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Performer in a Children’s, Preschool Children’s or Educational and Informational Program.
Nearly a decade after the show came to an end, Dove is finally responding to the theory that she blocked actual twins from landing the title roles.

While speaking on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast alongside host Amanda Hirsch, Dove opened up about online hate that she got for “stealing” the roles from twins. The clip is from the March 3rd episode of the podcast.
“You know, something’s funny that I’ve never said in an interview before, but I want to clear up,” Dove began. “I have seen over the years so many people saying, ‘I can’t believe she stole this role from two actual twins that could have been paid.’ And I wanted to respond so many times being like, ‘Please, please understand, no twins auditioned for this show. it was always about making one actor play two.’”
She continued, “And so, like, I wanted to clear this up. There were no actual twin actors who were harmed in the making of Liv & Maddie. Nobody else auditioned for this. It was purely created for itself, which is crazy. They just told me I was doing it after we did a totally different pilot. So, it just happened.”
Dove added, “I think it’s probably old, but I used to see it a lot. I used to be like, ‘I swear!’”
Dove has previously shared the story of how her characters were made up along the way.
