Newcastle could complicate Tottenham's plan to replace Guglielmo Vicario

Tottenham Hotspur have some clear candidates in mind to take over the gloves from Guglielmo Vicario, but they may not be easy to get this summer.

Vicario is thought to be keen to return to Serie A after three years in London, with Juventus and Inter Milan thought to be plotting a move for the Spurs man.

Tottenham are expected to demand €30m (£26m) for their number one, and it appears that the club have already started looking for options to take over the gloves from the Italian.

However, two of their targets may not be easy to get as the race for their services is now intensifying.

Man City’s James Trafford is rumoured to be Tottenham’s top target to replace Vicario, while some sources have revealed that Spurs are also eyeing a move for Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen.

A new report in iNews has now claimed that Newcastle United will also shop for a new goalkeeper this summer, and their wishlist is similar to that of Tottenham Hotspur.

The Magies are ready to invest in a long-term successor to Nick Pope, and Verbruggen has emerged on their radar in light of his impressive growth in the South Coast.

Additionally, Newcastle are also a big fan of Trafford, who now faces an uncertain future at Man City.

Trafford deal expected to be ‘complicated’ this summer

CaughtOffside revealed that despite their desire to land at Trafford, Newcastle sources regard the City goalkeeper’s situation to be ‘complicated’.

Eddie Howe’s men are not certain to find an agreement regarding a fee and wages for the 23-year-old goalkeeper.

This update comes just a few days after it was reported that Trafford may prefer a move to Aston Villa over Spurs in the summer.
