At least 6 killed in weekend gun violence citywide
At least six men, including one who was gunned down during a gender reveal party, were killed in shootings throughout Chicago from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, officials confirmed.
Five of the six homicides happened Saturday in Chatham, Albany Park, Chicago Lawn, Bridgeport and Auburn Gresham.
- Carlos Navarro Perez, 45, was fatally shot in one of multiple drive-by shootings Sunday night, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner's office said. Navarro Perez was standing outside in 3900 block of West 62nd Street in West Lawn around 8:30 p.m. Sunday and was shot in the head, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at 9:04 a.m.
- A male was walking near the sidewalk in the 7900 block of South Ingleside Avenue in Chatham around 5:30 p.m. Saturday when someone inside a car shot at him, striking him multiple times, officials said. He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
- About half an hour earlier, Michael Rounds Jr., 19, was inside a home in the 7700 block of South Racine Avenue at a gender reveal party when someone in a passing car fired shots and struck him in the head, officials said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
- In Albany Park, a man was killed and three others were wounded around 3 p.m. Saturday in the basement of a home in the 4900 block of North Harding Avenue, officials said. An unidentified 24-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene and two men, 29 and 34, were wounded and taken to Swedish Hospital in fair condition.
- About 10 minutes earlier, two 40-year-old men were in an alley in the 300 block of West 29th Street in Armour Square when someone approached and shot both of them, police said. Both men were taken to Stroger Hospital initially in critical condition. One of the victims — identified as Carlos Alcantar — later died shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday, according to the medical examiner's office.
- Emmanuel I. Aguiniga, 30, was fatally shot in Chicago Lawn around 3 a.m. Saturday in the 3200 block of 62nd Street when a sliver sedan approached and someone inside shot him multiple times while he stood outside, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have not reported arrests in any of the attacks.
Detectives are investigating.
