Man, 19, fatally shot at gender reveal party in Auburn Gresham: police
A celebration that should have been joyful ended tragically as someone in a passing car opened fire, gunning down a 19-year-old man who was attending a gender reveal party Saturday in Auburn Gresham on the South Side, according to Chicago police.
Michael Rounds Jr. was inside a home about 5 p.m. in the 7700 block of South Racine Avenue when someone in a passing car fired shots, sending bullets shattering through a window and hitting him in the head, police and the Cook County medical examiner's office said. Rounds was pronounced dead at the scene.
Rounds' mother, who was distraught when reached by a Sun-Times reporter, did not immediately share more information.
According to police reports, Rounds Jr.'s sister told responding officers that her family was celebrating a gender reveal party that was winding down when a blue car pulled up and someone asked "What are you doing on my block?"
Moments later, the same car returned and fired at the building, leaving Rounds Jr. fatally shot, the report states.
About 20 .45-caliber and 9-millimeter cartridges were recovered from the scene, police said. It was initially believed there was a second shooting victim but it was later determined Rounds Jr.'s sister had injured her foot on broken glass.
No one was in custody in the attack of Rounds, who was one of at least six homicide victims over the weekend.
