A new chapter for Cypriot winemaking begins at CHATEAU PUNIN
In an event marked by strong symbolism and developmental significance, CHATEAU PUNIN, located in Parekklisia, Limassol, hosted the planting of Pinot Noir vineyards in Cyprus, a milestone that signals a new era for the country’s wine industry.
Among those in attendance were Andreas Grigoriou, Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Stelios Tsioustas, First Officer of the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry, and Elina Christofidou, Officer of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, alongside media representatives and partners of the Group.
The event opened with a historical overview by Dona Hadjiantona, Winery Director, who presented the evolution of the winery since its establishment in 2004, highlighting its export activity, international awards, and steady growth over the years.
Project Manager Andrey Savchenko outlined the philosophy behind the development of CHATEAU PUNIN, emphasizing the importance of soil and climate in vine cultivation and presenting the long-term production strategy. Particular attention was given to the international identity of Pinot Noir, one of the world’s most refined yet demanding grape varieties, and to the strategic decision to cultivate it in Cyprus.
The symbolic planting of the first vine was carried out by the Group’s founder, Dmitriy Punin, followed by guests actively participating in planting their own vines, marking an important milestone for the project.
In his address, the Group’s CEO highlighted the broader vision behind the investment.
“Today, we are not simply planting Pinot Noir vines in Cyprus. We are planting a vision. We believe Cyprus deserves to stand out, not only in tourism and services, but also in quality and creativity,” he noted.
He further emphasised the long-term commitment of PUNIN GROUP, noting: “We are not pursuing short-term profit. We are building something that will last. Our goal is to produce high-quality wines that will give Cyprus a strong position on the global wine map.”
While renovation works and vineyard development are ongoing, CHATEAU PUNIN is already available for private event bookings. The estate offers a distinctive setting that blends the historical identity of the winery with its new strategic direction, making it an ideal venue for corporate gatherings, private receptions, and curated events within an authentic winemaking environment.
The event concluded with a presentation of CHATEAU PUNIN’s winemaking philosophy, a curated wine-tasting experience, and open dialogue with the technical experts behind the project.
With this planting, CHATEAU PUNIN sets a clear strategic direction, to showcase the uniqueness of Cyprus’ soil and natural conditions through modern expertise, innovation and environmental responsibility, with the ambition of positioning Cyprus dynamically on the international wine map.
