Iran Rejects Proposal for Talks with United States
Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, has denied reports suggesting Tehran proposed negotiations with the United States.
In a post on X on Monday, March 2, Larijani said Iran would not enter into talks with Washington under current circumstances, dismissing earlier claims of diplomatic outreach.
He sharply criticized US President Donald Trump, accusing him of pushing the region toward chaos through what he described as “empty illusions.” Larijani said Trump was now concerned about further American casualties.
“Trump has turned the ‘America First’ slogan into ‘Israel First,’ sacrificing American forces for Israel’s thirst for power,” Larijani wrote, intensifying rhetoric amid escalating hostilities.
Earlier, Trump had stated that Iranian officials had offered talks and that he had accepted the proposal. However, Tehran’s latest comments appear to contradict that claim.
Tensions surged after joint US and Israeli military operations launched Saturday reportedly killed several senior Iranian officials, including Iran’s leader, Ali Khamenei.
The strikes have triggered regional instability, with fears growing of a broader conflict that could draw in allied armed groups and further destabilize the Middle East.
Iran’s top security official has rejected claims of proposed talks with Washington, escalating tensions after deadly joint US-Israeli strikes targeting senior Iranian leaders.
Diplomatic prospects remain uncertain as both sides exchange accusations, while regional actors brace for potential retaliation and further military escalation.
