Did Catherine O’Hara Posthumously Win at the 2026 Actor Awards?
It’s been weeks since the world mourned the news that legendary actress Catherine O’Hara, known for her roles in Schitt’s Creek, Home Alone, Beetlejuice, and more, tragically passed away at the age of 71 after a brief illness. While she has passed on, she won at tonight’s 2026 Actor Awards, formerly known as the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Before her death, O’Hara was nominated for Female Actor in a Comedy Series for her role in the Apple TV+ series The Studio. So many wondered whether she would win posthumously, and the final predictions said she would.
Seth Rogan went to accept her award when she won in the category on March 1. He said, “I was asked to assume the very sad honor of accepting this award on O’Hara’s behalf. I know she would’ve been honored to receive this award from her fellow performers who I know she respected so much. She was such big fans of all of yours,” he said. “I obviously, you know, have been reflecting on the time I was fortunate enough to spend with her, working with her. And something that I’ve just been marveling at over the last few weeks was, was really her ability to be generous and kind and gracious while never, ever minimizing her own talents and her own ability to contribute to the work that we were doing.”
He added, “She knew she could destroy, and she wanted to destroy every day on set. I haven’t said this to the other actors ’cause I didn’t want ’em to get ideas, but pretty much every evening before she had a shooting day on our show, she would email me and Evan an email that was always pretty similar. It said, ‘Hello, I hope you’ll consider the following.’ And then there would be a completely rewritten version of the scene she was in.”
The crowd laughed.
“And literally 100% of the time, it made not just her character better, but it made the scene better and the entire show better as a whole. And she really showed that you can be a genius and be kind,” he added. “And one of those things does not have to come at the expense of the other in any way, shape, or form.”
He finished by saying, “So I guess I’ll just leave you with this. If you have people in your lives that don’t know or work, if there are kids in your lives or just people who are out of touch or stupid or something, just show them O’Hara dancing to Harry Belafonte in Beetlejuice. Show them O’Hara hurting her knee in Best in Show, doing that amazing thing where she hobbles around. And tell the people as they’re laughing that that’s Catherine O’Hara. That we were lucky that we got to live in a world where she so generally shared talent with.”
There wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
Stars like Kathryn Hahn for The Studio, Jenna Ortega for Wednesday, Jean Smart for Hacks, and Kristen Wiig for Palm Royale were nominated in the same category.

For those who don’t know, O’Hara received her first Actor Award nomination in 2011 for Temple Grandin, in the Outstanding Actress in a Miniseries or TV Movie category.
She was nominated for Outstanding Ensemble in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series for Schitt’s Creek in 2019. The following year, she won both categories when she was nominated again.
