Govt hails Faizan Global Relief Foundation for Ramadan food support
Government has commended the Faizan Global Relief Foundation (FGRF) for supporting over 15,000 vulnerable families across the country with food assistance during the holy month of Ramadan.
Minister of Labour, Skills and Innovation, Joel Chigona, praised the organisation in Salima during a distribution exercise where 4,000 families received relief packs.
Chigona said the recent dry spell and erratic rains have left many households struggling with food shortages, making it difficult for them to fast comfortably.
He noted that while government is distributing relief maize following the declaration of a State of National Disaster, the support remains insufficient in some areas, particularly lakeshore districts affected by poor harvests.
The minister called on other organisations and well-wishers to emulate FGRF’s intervention, saying the level of need remains high.
Speaking during the exercise, FGRF Director of Communications and Public Relations, Ibrahim Omar, said the organisation has reached 15,000 families within the first week of Ramadan alone.
Each household received 10 kilogrammes of maize flour, one kilogramme of beans, one kilogramme of rice, soya pieces and sugar to help them prepare meals for iftar and sehri.
Omar said about K2 billion has been invested in the programme to complement government relief efforts.
He added that distributions have so far covered areas including Chikunda, Chiswe, Nsanje, Thyolo, Kanjedza, Zomba and Salima.
FGRF says the exercise will continue in other parts of the country throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
