Bride Accuses Mother-in-Law of Killing Her Husband's Confidence & Joy After She Complains About 1 Key Wedding Detail
A bride-to-be is upset with her future mother-in-law and is accusing her of ruining the upcoming wedding for her fiancé, especially after she made him second guess a key component of the big day.
Taking to Reddit‘s popular “Wedding Drama” forum, the woman explained that she and her partner are tying the knot in May 2026.
They’ve been looking forward to the big event. However, the bride said that her mother-in-law’s behavior is “slowly [killing] out the joy” for her husband-to-be.
She cited one complaint that the mother had, saying that it’s affecting her love’s confidence as their special day draws nearer.

In her post, the Redditor noted that her groom’s mom hasn’t been overly involved in the planning of the wedding, adding that she’s “never asked any questions, never offered to help with the planning.”
“If we shared updates she always had something negative to reply,” she continued.
Due to “some other drama between us and MIL’s husband,” the woman noted that there has been some distance between the two couples, though the mother and son talk at least every other week.
During one of those conversations, the groom was left feeling defeated after he showed his mom a photo of his “[gorgeous chocolate] brown suit.”
After first seeing the picture, the bride said that her mother-in-law said that it was “great and looks good on him.”
That changed suddenly, leaving the groom with second thoughts.
“Now yesterday she called him and went on a rant about how it doesn’t look good and it look grandpa-ish, would it even match the decor, and how can someone wear brown for a wedding,” she wrote.
Continuing, she recalled, “My fiancé firstly asked her if this is really why she called him, then he asked what color does she think he should wear (bc we played this same game with her about a year ago when a black suit was in mind; she told him that he [shouldn't] even think about wearing black (((but it’s the most basic and most elegant [color] for a wedding suit????))), and she told him beige. F—ing beige, as if that wasn’t a freaking shade of brown.”
The bride noted that her future husband “takes everything to heart” and was left concerned and hurt by his mom’s comments.
“I told him that he’s not a living piece of decor so he doesn’t need to match anything, and if that suit was ugly I would’ve told him before he bought it,” she wrote, adding, “My heart aches for him and as much as i liked my future MIL when my fiancé and I stared dating, I am starting to resent her just as much by now from stunts like this.”
Fellow Redditors commiserated with the bride and weighed in on the situation.
“I don’t know why but MILs seem to just lose it when their sons get married. It’s sad she can’t be happy for him and pump him up. Unfortunately, you’re going to have to do it for him. His suit is a neutral color and will go with everything,” one person wrote, urging the woman to “ask [her groom] not to share anymore info with his mom. This way she’ll have nothing to come back with to upset him.”
Others urged for the mom to be put on an “information diet” so that she only gets certain details about the wedding.
They speculated that her complaint about the suit likely had to do with her own hunt for a wedding-day look.
“She probably couldn’t find a brown dress she liked because she wanted to ‘match’ him,” they wrote.
Another Reddit user pointed out a concerning detail about the woman recommending her son wear beige: “Since your FMIL wants your fiancé to wear beige, she plans to wear a beige dress, close to white. So I think it’s in the best interest of everyone to ask her what color she plans on wearing.”
Providing some tough love, they added, “I also think your fiancé has to set boundaries with her, in the nicest possible way. Something like he truly appreciates her concern, but he already gave up the black one for her and he’s wearing the chocolate one now. Sorry, he has to grow a back bone.”
