Yerin Ha Is An Advocate for Asian Representation on Screen

“The industry is really changing. It really started with Crazy Rich Asians, and I’m going to bring it back there because I feel like that really shook Hollywood up,” she said to Gamer. “But to see such a young, powerful Korean woman, just unapologetically speak her voice, speak her mind, try to do whatever it takes to get what she wants, but also trying to do it for the greater good for the people, understanding what sacrifices, understanding what a legacy is.”

She added, “That kind of storyline is what really hooked me. And I found that that was really important to tell, and we don’t really get to see that many times. It’s definitely changing. But growing up, I never saw those stories. I only saw Asian women playing stereotypes in convenience stores and all this kind of stuff. So for me it’s also really important that younger generations see themselves be portrayed in a really fierce way.”

During a Feb. 25 appearance on Capital Breakfast via People, Yerin Ha revealed that during Bridgerton, she got Folliculitis, an uncomfortable skin condition where an infected or inflamed hair follicle causes itchy bumps, while filming the bathtub sex scene.

“There’s a scene where we are in a bathtub and basically I put baby powder all on me because I was told it would help dry my skin to put the intimacy wear on with my tape,” she said. “And then basically the next day after the bathtub, I got hives all over my body and got folliculitis and needed steroid cream! But I blame myself. because I think it was a combination of baby powder and the bath water.”
