Sports Briefs: San Marin boys keep season alive, head to NorCals
Grant Means scored 24 points and Jackson Young had a double-double as top-seeded San Marin High kept their season alive with Saturday’s 86-68 victory over Alhambra to claim third place in the North Coast Section Division IV boys basketball playoffs. The win secures a berth in next week’s Northern California Regionals for the Mustangs (17-13).
Means hit three 3-pointers and had three rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Young had 15 points, 12 rebounds and four assists, while Miller Morgan posted 11 points to go with seven rebounds and seven assists for the Mustangs. San Marin got strong efforts from Kellen Dunning (10 points), Jake Beisler (9 points), Anthony Elwell (7 points, 6 rebounds) and Joey Engler (8 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals). The Mustangs led 37-36 at halftime, before going on a 22-10 run in the third quarter.
- Novato resident Dylan Chelew scored a team-high 25 points as top-seeded St. Vincent de Paul powered past No. 2 Mendocino, 78-38, to claim the NCS D-VI championship Saturday evening in Petaluma. George Chaput and Jack Ellis, both of Novato, scored 16 and 13 points, respectively, for the Mustangs (21-10), who led 42-14 at halftime.
Girls basketball
No. 6 San Domenico fell 47-33 to No. 4 Healdsburg in Saturday’s North Coast Section Division V championship. The Panthers (12-14) continue their season next week in the Northern California Regionals.
