Couple who suffered liver damage discover flatmate covering food with bug spray
A couple who tried to find out why the kept getting stomach illnesses were left horrified after discovering their roomate was poisoning their food with bug spray.
Billy Sonhopper and her husband David, from Los Angeles, California, had suffered numerous illnesses including visits to A&E with chest and stomach pains.
Footage shows their roommate Timothy Bradbury covering food with what appears to be Raid bug spray.
He even wore a gas mask as he sprayed the liquid on produce in the shared kitchen.
The couple had set up the cameras after David was left with liver damage.
Doctors had examined his bloodwork and suspected he had been poisoned.
David said: ‘On the video we found that, besides all the other things that he’s done in the year that we’ve lived here, that he was spraying something — we weren’t sure if it was rat poison, wasp spray.
‘He was spraying stuff all over our groceries — our fruit, our vegetables, our coffee pot that we use every morning, and our whole pantry full of our chips and cereal, all of our canned goods and spices.
‘Everything. He sprayed it all over everything.’
But it wasn’t just bug spray. Bradbury also damaged their property including their car.
David added: ‘He set our house on fire. He’s poisoned our stuff. He’s destroyed our property. I’ve had to get a new car because he destroyed my old one.’
Police were called to the property, where a stand-off between Bradbury and officers ensued.
After two hours of negotiations, he eventually exited the home voluntarily and was arrested for willful poisoning of food, drink, medicine or water with intent to cause injury.
The owner of the home had been trying to evict Bradbury.
Billy said: ‘We don’t want to be in fear anymore. We’re tired of it. We just want to be safe.’
David added: ‘It’s been hell living with him the past year. It’s been horrible.
‘With her health issues, we were extremely concerned. And we’re just tired. We’ve been living with so much stress.’
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
