Tottenham tipped to make ‘unhappy’ England international a ‘top target’
Former Tottenham scout Mick Brown has predicted that a 23-year-old Englishman is at the top of the Lilywhites’ wishlist as they look to upgrade in a key position this summer.
The summer transfer window still seems a long way away for Spurs, whose Premier League status is far from secure at the moment.
The Lilywhites also have to decide on who their next permanent head coach will be before they can start finalising their transfer targets.
However, it appears that the club’s recruitment department have already begun identifying suitable options to upgrade key areas of the pitch.
James Trafford tipped to be Tottenham’s top choice to replace Guglielmo Vicario
Over recent months, there have been plenty of reports suggesting that Man City’s James Trafford is on Spurs’ radar.
Mick Brown has now confirmed that Tottenham are looking to upgrade on Guglielmo Vicario and that Trafford could be the club’s top target if Man City decide to let the Englishman leave.
The former Spurs scout told Football Insider: “Tottenham are looking at a few new goalkeepers. One who I think is going to be high up on their list is James Trafford, the Man City goalkeeper, because it looks like he might be available.
“He’s not happy at Man City and he’s made that pretty clear, he doesn’t want to be a number two, so a move to Tottenham could be a good opportunity. Trafford is still very highly rated, whenever you hear people speaking about him they always have good things to say, and he showed what he can do at Burnley.
“He’s an England international and he’s still only young as well, so it’s more of a long-term investment. It might depend on his future at Man City, if they are willing to let him go then he’s going to be a top target for Tottenham, but it’s still in their hands.”
Trafford may prefer joining another Premier League side over Spurs
Tottenham are not the only ones eyeing a move for the Man City goalkeeper, who is also of interest to Aston Villa.
In fact, it has been reported that Trafford prefers to move to Villa Park over the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer.
With the Villans looking set for Champions League qualification and with Spurs likely to miss out on all European football, the Lilywhites may face a difficult task convincing the goalkeeper to come to N17.
