Bride Is 'Extremely Annoyed' After Learning Something Her In-Laws Expect as Wedding Looms, Others Agree It's a 'Nightmare' Scenario

A bride-to-be is concerned about being in a tough situation with her future husband’s family as their wedding draws nearer.

Taking to Reddit‘s “Am I the A–hole” forum, the Redditor explained that she and her fiancé were set to tie the knot in early 2027.

They’re still in the midst of planning the big day. However, she was left feeling “extremely annoyed” after “indirectly” learning that her future in-laws have a big ask of her and her man.

She’s not alone, either. Others rushed to assure her that the situation was a “nightmare” scenario.

In her post, the woman explained that she and her partner were expected “to host extended family members of my fiancé’s family when they visit to attend our wedding.”

Continuing, she wrote that nine family members would be traveling in for the big day. Of the group, she and her future hubby were expected to host five of them. Since flights weren’t booked yet, it wasn’t clear how long the guests were planning to stay.

“For further context, me and my partner are currently building our very first house which is expected to be finished in the next few months,” she added, saying that the idea of hosting so many people “adds further stress of having to make sure our house is fully furnished and ready for hosting.”

While the bride wrote that her sister-in-law was willing to stay and help host the family, she thought it would be “a lot of pressure,” since she is also in the wedding and will soon start going to college.

“I feel overwhelmed at the thought of having eight people (this includes us and my sister-in-law) as well as our large dog (his family don’t have experience with dogs and they have a five-year-old child) in our house leading up to the wedding and potentially afterwards,” she admitted, saying that she worried about coming home “as a freshly married couple to a full house of people.”

The couple came to a decision: “We have decided that we are going to tell his mum that we will not be hosting anybody at our house due to the stress of the wedding and us still working full-time.”

Despite being in agreement, she wrote that her fiancé “is extremely nervous” and worries about putting “a burden on his parents.”

She disagreed and added that she was “also extremely annoyed that this is just an expectation, and we haven’t even been asked whether we are okay with it (nor have we been directly told).”

Many users rushed to assure the bride that she wasn’t in the wrong.

“The best thing you can do is rent them an Airbnb, and have no guests in your home. Hold your ground. What you describe is a nightmare,” one fellow Redditor wrote.

Another agreed, saying that they didn’t even need to finish the bride’s full post before deciding that hosting that many family members was an unfair request.

“Weddings are stressful and the last thing you need is having to host guests, family or not, at home while trying to deal with it,” they explained.

The bride responded to some of the people, adding that she didn’t want to “offend” her family and knew that it was “more of a cultural thing” on her mother-in-law’s side. However, she ultimately wrote, “I think we need to put ourselves first.”
