German Deputy Head of Cooperation, Susanne Meltl says promoting access to clean and reliable energy is crucial for Malawi to help power businesses, create jobs and strengthening local economies.
Meltl, made these remarks during the launch of the “Kupha Makwacha ndi Solar” campaign awareness on Friday at Msungwi Market in Lilongwe.
She underscored that investment in these technologies can unlock new opportunities for economies like Malawi.
Meltl cited that clean energy solutions like solar can help Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) reduce costs and become more resilient, productive, and profitable.
“Germany, together with the European Union, is supporting Malawi because today we have seen promising energy systems that can enable Malawians to access energy, boost their businesses, and meet their needs,” she explained.
The Team Leader for Sustainable Investment, Finance, and Trade at the Delegation of the European Union to Malawi Sven Ruesch, added that investing in off-grid solar solutions supports inclusive and sustainable economic growth, particularly for women and youths.
On his part, Energy Officer in the Ministry of Energy and Mining, Enock Palapandu, praised the initiative, saying it will support many Malawians, including MSMEs, in both rural and urban areas.
He added that productive use of energy is central to Malawi’s economic transformation.
The “Kupha Makwacha ndi Solar” project is funded by the European Union and Germany and implemented by GIZ.
