Fulham vs Tottenham Premier League preview: Team news and predicted lineups

Tottenham travel to Fulham on Sunday desperate for their first Premier League win of the calendar year, looking to create some vital breathing space from the relegation zone.

Igor Tudor was handed a brutal introduction to life in north London as his side were thrashed 1-4 at home by Arsenal last Sunday. On a day where a win would have meant more than just three points, the huge gap in quality between the two sides – something the Croatian boss himself later admitted – ultimately proved to be the difference.

Despite the scoreline, there was a minor silver lining: Spurs generated nearly 11 times the xG they managed in the reverse fixture under Thomas Frank. However, for the supporters, the improved metrics did little to mask the familiar pain of a derby loss.

With only 2 wins from their last 18 league outings, Tottenham sit just five points above the drop zone. If this downward spiral continues, any lingering hopes of European football will vanish, replaced entirely by a scrap for survival.

Fulham, meanwhile, sit comfortably 8 points ahead of Spurs at 10th. Marco Silva’s men arrive full of confidence following a 1-3 win at Sunderland last weekend, courtesy of a second-half brace from Raul Jimenez. That victory was a much-needed course correction for the Cottagers, who had suffered three straight defeats prior and had lost four of their last six matches.

What time does Fulham vs Tottenham kick off?

Fulham vs Tottenham: Head-to-head record

Fulham will be chasing a league double over Spurs for the first time since 2004 after their memorable 2-1 win in the reverse fixture. That afternoon spiralled quickly for Tottenham, who conceded twice inside the opening five minutes, including the high-profile error from Guglielmo Vicario that later gave rise to the unfortunate ‘players vs fans’ narrative.

Recent history suggests the tide may be turning in West London; Fulham have won three of their last four league meetings with Spurs, which is remarkably as many as they managed in the 26 encounters prior.

Tottenham Team News

Igor Tudor provided a fitness boost on Thursday, confirming that Pedro Porro and Kevin Danso have returned to full training and should feature.

However, the absentee list still remains long. Cristian Romero serves the third of his four-match ban, while Ben Davies, Destiny Udogie, Mohammed Kudus, Rodrigo Bentancur, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Lucas Bergvall, and Wilson Odobert all remain sidelined.

Micky Van de Ven, who faced criticism for allegedly ignoring Tudor’s instructions against Arsenal, was later defended by the Croatian, who insisted the situation had been misunderstood; the Dutchman has a minor toe issue but is fit enough to feature.

Fulham Team News

Forward Kevin was forced off late in the first half of the Sunderland win, and early indications suggest the Brazilian could be set for a spell on the sidelines.

Fulham are also sweating on the fitness of Antonee Robinson and Sasa Lukic, both of whom remain significant doubts for Sunday.

Meanwhile, Samuel Chukwueze has missed Fulham’s last three outings with a calf issue; and while he is nearing a return to the squad, it’s currently unclear if Marco Silva will risk him from the start.

Predicted Lineups

TOTTENHAM: Vicario, Porro, Danso, Dragusin, Van de Ven, Spence, Bissouma, Gallagher, Simons, Solanke, Kolo Muani.

FULHAM: Leno, Tete, Andersen, Basse, Sessegnon, Berge, Smith Rowe, Iwobi, Wilson, Jimenez, Bobb.

Our Prediction

Fulham’s Achilles’ heel remains their defence; they haven’t kept a clean sheet in 11 matches, and Tottenham must find a way to exploit that vulnerability.

Randal Kolo Muani looks like the man most likely to do the damage. He scored Spurs’ only goal against Arsenal and was unlucky not to have a second after a questionable officiating call. Despite being isolated at times, he held his own against the Gabriel-Saliba partnership, suggesting Fulham’s physical backline shouldn’t intimidate him.

The danger for Spurs lies with Harry Wilson, who has been Fulham’s standout performer with 15 goal contributions this term. Fulham’s front line is coached to press aggressively, meaning Tottenham simply cannot afford the kind of cheap turnovers that have plagued them recently.

It does feel a bit weird to call a Premier League fixture a must-win in early March, but for Tottenham, it probably is. The pressure is mounting, and the gap to the bottom three is uncomfortable.

Prediction: Fulham 1-2 Tottenham
