Champions League Men: “At the moment, Recco and FTC is the biggest rivalry in water polo” – Balazs Nyeki
With the Champions League Quarter Final Group Stage draw set, European Aquatics caught up with FTC-Telekom Waterpolo head coach Balázs Nyéki to get his thoughts on the next phase and their highly anticipated clashes with Pro Recco.
“At this moment, FTC and Recco is the biggest rivalry in water polo,” said Nyeki. “Those games will be a huge pleasure for everybody.
“I think Recco arrived back to the highest level this year. Also last year they were good, but of course it’s a different team with new players. They had good transfers in the summer and I think they are one of the best teams at this moment.
“So that’s why you could see we had a great match [in the Super Cup] – I think the most entertaining match in the last 10 years of the Super Cup against them and everybody could enjoy it.
“I think it will be something similar in the next two matches. We hope we can beat them in the first match in Budapest, but it will be very difficult for sure, because both teams have the best players in the world.”
Nyeki’s interview with European Aquatics can be seen in full in the latest edition of Water Polo World, which can be viewed on the link below, or on the European Aquatics YouTube channel.
