Nancy Guthrie Update: Police Make Crucial Change

Earlier Friday morning news broke that police arrested a man after he allegedly drove near the home of Nancy Guthrie, the missing 84-year-old mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie.

The man allegedly exhibited “weird” behavior and was apprehended by police after the media spotted him slowly driving past Guthrie’s home in Tucson in a blue vehicle and repeatedly stopping to look at a memorial set up outside. According to the New York Post, the man allegedly drove by Guthrie’s home up to 100 times while looking at a photo of the missing grandmother on his phone.

Pima County Sheriff's Department Breaks Silence on the Arrest

In a new statement the Pima County Sheriff's Department made it clear that the arrest near Guthrie's home is not related to the case for the missing 84-year-old, no matter how troubling the news appears.

"Shortly before 8:00 p.m. on February 26, 2026, deputies arrested 34-year-old Antonio De Jesus Pena-Campos in front of Nancy Guthrie’s home on misdemeanor DUI charges. This arrest is not related to the Guthrie investigation," the statement read.

While the statement didn't provide new information beyond the driver's name, a later message from the sheriff's department added critical new information.

Pima County Sheriff's Department Refocusing Efforts

As the investigation reaches one month, a spokesperson reiterated officials' commitment to the case, adding that it is "refocusing resources" to those detectives actively working on the investigation.

"This remains an active investigation and will continue until Nancy Guthrie is located or all leads have been exhausted," the statement read. "The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is refocusing resources to detectives specifically assigned to this case. As leads are developed and resolved, resource allocation may fluctuate. PCSD will maintain a patrol presence in the Guthrie neighborhood."

Initially, the department called in detectives from other units to assist the search, but now only the detectives specifically assigned to Ms. Guthrie’s case will be involved.

Savannah Guthrie Makes New Plea

In a new post on social media Friday afternoon, Savannah Guthrie made a new plea to those with any information regarding the disappearance of her mother.

"Please — be the one that brings her home," Guthrie wrote in a Friday Instagram caption attached to a clip of a Today show segment about the case. She reminded followers that "Tips can be anonymous, reward can be paid in cash," regarding the new $1 million reward for information.

Guthrie was last seen at her home on Jan. 31. Nearly a month later, her family is still left searching for answers.
