BK Assistant providers staffers with access to operational guidelines, inventory management and compliance tracking, “enabling them to focus more on guest service and team leadership,” Burger King owner and quick service restaurant company Restaurant Brands International (RBI) said in a Thursday (Feb. 27) press release.
Burger King Chief Digital Officer Thibault Roux said during an interview with NYSE Live that BK Assistant will consolidate data that has been fragmented or that hasn’t been tapped into, such as data from the drive-thru and from kitchen equipment, and provide smarter recommendations.
For store managers, BK Assistant will provide information instantly so they don’t have to spend time in their office gathering that information, Roux said.
The AI tool will also do “listening” that will help managers ensure that staff are friendly with customers and that restaurants avoid allowing orders of items that are out of stock, Roux said. It will also simplify operations for employees at a time when new ways of ordering are making things more complex, he added.
“Also, a lot of our franchisees have many restaurants and so it’s hard to be in all the restaurants at any given time,” Roux said. “So, this gives them one digital command center to have visibility and understanding of where are their restaurants and really zone in which ones they need to focus on that have specific problems in real time.”
PYMNTS reported in March 2025 that fast food chains are stepping up their adoption of AI and automation and expanding their deployment of the technology to streamline operations, improve profitability and enhance the customer experience.
A December 2024 survey of restaurant operators and financiers by TD Bank found that 42% said AI and automation would have the greatest impact on the restaurant industry over the following year.
In July 2025, PYMNTS reported that restaurants were integrating AI-powered robots in their operations to do tasks such as serving food to diners, cooking meals, delivering food and mixing cocktails. These robots are taking more active roles in both customer-facing and back-kitchen tasks.
