Freddy Peralta Named Mets’ Opening Day Starter
Carlos Mendoza announced that the newly acquired Freddy Peralta will be the New York Mets’ Opening Day starter on Thursday, March 26. This is Peralta’s third opening day start, previously pitching opening day against the Yankees in 2025 and against the Mets in 2024. This is also the third year in a row that his first start will be in New York City.
In his 2025 Opening Day start against the Yankees, Peralta threw five innings of two-run ball with eight strikeouts. In his 2024 Opening Day start, he secured the win, pitching six innings of one-run ball with eight strikeouts. In 2023, he also pitched the Brewers’ home opener against the Mets, securing the win with six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts.
Across those three years in his first start of the season, Peralta posted a 1.59 ERA, 0.71 WHIP, and 37.7% strikeout rate. Peralta will look to continue this dominant stretch against the Pirates in Pittsburgh on March 26.
Peralta is making his spring debut on Friday against the Cardinals.
