Pakistan Confirms Drone Attacks as Airstrikes Continue Between Kabul and Islamabad
Pakistan’s military confirms Taliban drone attacks on multiple cities as cross-border airstrikes intensify between Kabul and Islamabad.
Pakistan’s military spokesman Sharif Ahmed Chaudhry confirmed that Taliban forces launched rudimentary drone attacks on parts of Pakistan, saying the unmanned aerial vehicles were intercepted and destroyed by counter-drone systems.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Chaudhry said the drone attacks targeted the cities of Sibi, Abbottabad, and Nowshera in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces. He claimed the nature of the attacks suggested the Taliban were acting as a proxy force while Kabul denies these allegations.
The confirmation came as Pakistani fighter jets reportedly continued strikes on Kabul, Kandahar, and Paktia. Islamabad has said air operations would continue until designated objectives are achieved.
The escalation follows retaliatory actions by Taliban forces in response to earlier Pakistani airstrikes on Nangarhar and Paktika, further intensifying hostilities along the frontier.
Tensions between Kabul and Islamabad have sharply increased in recent days, with both sides accusing each other of initiating cross-border attacks. Drone strikes and aerial bombardments mark a significant escalation from previous artillery exchanges.
Security analysts warn that the use of drones and sustained air campaigns could broaden the conflict, raising concerns about civilian safety and regional stability if diplomatic efforts fail.
