Hospital Compares Size of Record-Breaking Heaviest Baby to Smaller Child Born the Same Day to Prove a Point
A New York hospital is going viral after sharing a photo of the heaviest baby that they’ve ever delivered.
In a February news release on Facebook, Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, N.Y. shared a photo of baby Shawn Jr., who was born on January 30.
Weighing in at 13 lbs., he is “the largest baby ever born at the hospital.” The little one looks even larger when compared to baby Margot, who shares his birthday but was born weighing in at 4 lbs.
The hospital said that the two babies birth’s proved a sweet point.

“Their shared birthday was a sweet reminder that babies truly come in all shapes and sizes, and Cayuga Medical Center’s team is prepared to care for every unique birth story with skill and compassion,” the hospital wrote.
In a statement shared via the hospital with TODAY, Shawn‘s mom Terrica said that it felt like her family had “skipped straight to having a 3-month-old.”
“He’s already wearing 3 to 6 month diapers and clothes,” she said, adding that they “did not expect” the baby, her fourth, to be quite that large.
The heaviest birth recorded by Guinness World Records took place in 1879 when a mother gave birth to a baby that was 22 lbs. and 28 inches long. Tragically, the baby only survived for a few hours.
