Why We Love This Deal
Schott NYC literally invented the leather motorcycle jacket—the Perfecto jacket worn by James Dean, Marlon Brando, and the Ramones. How’s that for reputation? But the brand makes more than just leather jackets, and today is a rare opportunity to score one at a surprisingly affordable price. While Nordstrom has been going big on Barbour jacket deals lately, the retailer also has a standout price on a Schott waxed canvas option right now for under $150.
The Schott NYC Waxed Cotton Mechanic's Jacket is on sale for $126, a rare 30% discount from its normal price of $180. That’s significantly cheaper than Schott’s own price for this jacket and a spectacular deal for a waxed canvas jacket in general. For reference, Flint and Tinder’s Flannel-Lined Waxed Trucker—one of today's most popular waxed canvas jackets—retails for nearly $300, and similar options from Marine Layer, Filson, and Barbour are at least $200 or more.

Schott calls this a mechanic’s jacket, but it has a similar cut to a trucker jacket—it hits at the hips and has a relatively trim silhouette, so it won’t look bulky (though you can still layer it over a T-shirt and an open button-down).
It’s crafted from 100% cotton throughout. The shell is made from a hardy waxed cotton canvas fabric that naturally repels splashes and moisture, the collar is made from all-cotton corduroy for a soft feel against your neck, and the jacket is lined with cotton chambray fabric for a comfy fit. Adjustable side tabs and a metal button front closure give it extra heritage charm, and the clutter-free front pocket design—two welt hand pockets and a zippered chest pocket—really lets the character and patina of the waxed cotton shine (it’ll develop its own unique pattern of creases as you wear it).

How Does It Compare?
So how does it compare to other popular waxed canvas jackets? Let’s take the Flint and Tinder Waxed Trucker as an example. I own this jacket and love it, but I think this Schott has some upside that the other lacks.
The FnT layer lacks a corduroy collar, for one thing: Its waxed canvas collar can feel a little rough against my neck when I turn the collar up, and I like the look of the corduroy on the Schott, personally. In addition, the Schott is made completely from natural cotton, while the FnT jacket has a polyester “flannel” inner lining. It’s comfy enough, but I’d prefer authentic cotton chambray any day. Finally, Schott has been around for more than a century, and the name carries a lot of weight—owning one of the brand’s jackets, even those not made in the U.S., is a serious wardrobe flex.
It’s not every day you find a genuine Schott jacket on sale, let alone for the rock-bottom price of just $126. Better snag yours before the rest of the internet finds out about this deal—Nordstrom is sure to sell out quickly once that happens.
