"Fantastic": Ian Wright blown away by one Man Utd star, fancies him to score vs Crystal Palace
Arsenal legend Ian Wright has heaped praise on Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko ahead of the Premier League clash against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
The Red Devils returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday night. Sesko scored the only goal, coming off the bench.
The 22-year-old has been in fine scoring form since the New Year. He scored as a substitute for the third time under manager Michael Carrick against the Toffees this week.
Matheus Cunha initiated the counter-attack with a brilliant long ball to Bryan Mbeumo.
The Cameroonian put the ball on the plate for Sesko, who comfortably outran James Tarkowski before slotting his effort beyond Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
Speaking on The Overlap‘s Stick to Football podcast, Wright said that Sesko’s finish can be underestimated. He added that the Slovenian’s goal was fantastic.
He said: “That goal, Cunha’s work and the pass, but what was good about it, what people will underestimate is the ball has come across to Sesko and his concentration and finish.
“He had a long time to look at it; people underestimate, they think that’s easy; it’s just him and the goalie, it was fantastic.”
When asked for his predictions for Sunday, Wright backed the Red Devils to secure a 2-0 victory over the Eagles and feels Sesko will bag a brace against the south London outfit.
He added: “I think Sesko’s going to nick a couple in this. Sesko’s got to start as well.”
Sesko poised to start against Palace
The £66.3 million signing has been in brilliant form since the turn of the year. He scored a fantastic brace during the 2-2 draw against Burnley on the road under caretaker Darren Fletcher.
Since Carrick took charge as interim manager, Sesko has been a regular substitute for the Mancunian giants, yet he has still contributed significantly to the team’s league results.
Sesko scored the winning goal against Fulham (3-2) and bagged a dramatic late equaliser at West Ham United (1-1). He went on to score the winner against the Toffees on the road.
It now appears the perfect time for Carrick to unleash the young striker upfront. The 44-year-old could make one big change on Sunday with Sesko coming in for Amad in the starting XI.
Amad has been far from his best in recent matches and was guilty of losing possession 11 times in 58 minutes on Monday, winning just three out of eight duels against makeshift left-back Jarrad Branthwaite.
Bryan Mbeumo could slot on the right wing against the Eagles, thereby paving the way for Sesko to lead the line. The former RB Leipzig man will fancy his chances of scoring this weekend.
Palace had a tough Conference League play-off on Thursday, and United have an early advantage. Anything less than a victory against Oliver Glasner’s side would come as a surprise.
